This past weekend I was out helping a conservation club post signs along the
kissimmee River, on the east side about half way up the river, To my suprise
in one of the cow pastures we were woking in,(which was under about 2 inches
of water) I came across hundreds of Iris. They were light blue in color and
looked much like LA not that I really know on from an other but they look
very much like the LA I have in my Fort Lauderdale Fl. yard.
After some research I found out these are Southern Blue Flag (Iris virginica
Linnaeus) and are perennials found in swamps and wet prairies of northern
Florida. The map did not show them being anywhere near the area I found them.
