      Are you sure they are Iris virginica?  Considering the area, I would
very much suspect that they are Iris hexagona, which is one of the five
"Louisiana Iris" species.  Iris hexagona is native far south into Florida.
Did you see any alligators along the Kissimee River?  Are you familiar with
the Florida Gardening List?
