Hello listers,
Just returned from a trip to Armenia. Original country with very old
culture and the difficult present. A something average between the old (10
years later) Soviet Union and the Near East.
Encuraged by Dave Niswonger I had a goal to find and observe in natural
habitat Iris demetrii (spuria group) lost in all gardens. It still wide
disributed in Armenia and Karabakh mountains but its sites are separate and
not rich. I could never find it without aid of armenian friends.
A found site was at 1900 meters altitude at western slope of plateau at
meadow between shrubs. This site numbers not more two dozens fans.
Unfortunately it still didn't bloom in the mountains and bloomed out in
Erevan botanical garden.
I found too Iris pumila, Iris caucasica and Iris paradoxa at boards of the
lake Sevan and collect Ii. musulmanica, furcata and imbricata.
