I like the clump effect in my garden. I have blues
in one area and yellows in another and pinks in yet another. To get the effect
of a clump of each color in the bed, I group the like colors together close
enough to allow each iris to spread a bit and then skip a farther space to
begin the next color area. The bed of which I am speaking is a long and
wide S shape. There is a cypress mulched 4' wide walk on one side of the
iris and a small flowering shrub follows the other side. I have perennials on
the opisite side of the shrubs edged with another cypress walk. across the walks
are other beds of iris, herbs, perennials, and daylilies. The Rose gardens are
above and below these, and a few roses are in a couple of the mixed beds. The
water garden is below the iris S bed. How I am going to care for this place when
I get older, I do not know. Any suggestions? I guess I just wont have the veggie
garden , and I could let the back sections go and just tend the front of the
shrub line. Sorry, to ramble. I am glad to hear that someone likes clumps versus
the long straight rows of iris! I have those too, of course in the
back.
