Janet Yang mentioned that "according to Thompson & Morgan, this species
"does not set seed naturally". this may apply to some Higo irises but
ensata, itself, along with its colour variations set seed without any
help. I get four or five pods per plant and the seeds germinate without
difficulty. I will see if the Higo do it this year as I have quite a
few new ones flowering.
Japanese irises are just beginning to flower in abundance here. The are
very short, a foot less than normal, and the flowers are very much
smaller that other years. This could be the very early season or the
lack of rain throughout this growing period.
Ian, in Ottawa where the weather forecasters have promised storms since
April and all we receive is drops.
