CULT: winter clean up
From: Jan Clark <janclarx@hotmail.com>
Hi folks,
I'm just in for a quick read and a bite of lunch, exhausted from tackling
the jungle, crocodile dundee style with my machete (oh alright - secateurs
and pruning saw). I have pruned a banksia rose and passionfruit vine (the
root stock from our lovely, dead fruiting vine) into extinction, and trimmed
all the lavenders, hebes and penstemons into nice neat little mounds,
allowing some irises to see light of day for the first time in months.
The power went off long enough for the kids to help me cart away the
rubbish. School holidays here, and they have difficulty dragging themselves
away from the telly. I just had to make sure they didn't see me turning the
mains switch back on when they finished!
Wedding Vow was hiding in the dark, with 4 lovely healthy increase, looking
none the worse for wear. Silverado and Victoria Falls were less sheltered
and have both (at last) decided to increase. A good go over with the
cultivator and some fertiliser and lime in about 6 weeks time, and then I'm
all set for spring flowering.
The weather is glorious. It is the middle of winter here, and I have been
working in the yard in short sleeves.
It just doesn't get much better than this - really!
Cheers, Jan Clark, heading back to the garden.
