Those cottonwoods are survivors, aren't they? We had one that snapped in the
middle during a storm, and it just sent up new shoots. Fortunately, my neighbor
is a building contractor and was willing to remove the stump himself. Instead of
a stump grinder, he used a back-hoe to dig out the whole works!
I suggest that you put your plants into a holding bed and spray the
cottonwood parts with brush killer.
