TB: fans with 5 leaves

From: Gale Jellum <7kjellum@3rivers.net>

HGTV was on in the background and my ears perked up when I heard
"division of tall bearded iris." The program was Rebecca's Garden and she
mentioned that if your division of iris had five leaves in the fan it would
bloom next year. If the fan only had three leaves in the division, it
would not usually bloom until the second or third year. She also suggested
planting the rhizome divisions in a circle shape.
Have you found the number of leaves in the fan to be an indication of
how soon the transplanted rhizome will bloom? I hope that I quoted Rebecca
accurately as I was reading my iris list mail! :)
