I would agree with what Jan said, but also say that as a rule of thumb a
rz with 5 leaves, harvested at least 6-8 weeks after flowering is *very
likely* to bloom next year. There are always exceptions, and growing
conditions greatl affect the way they perform.
When we hold our "sort night" in advance of one of our sales we divide
irises into 5 leave rz and one with less than 5 leaves. We consider the
5 leave rz to be sellable at full price because we believe they will
grow well and bloom the next spring. The others are sold in grab bags or
given as extras.
