AIS: Iris Telethon!

From: irisborer@aol.com

Good morning Iristocrats:

I am here with my hand out this morning for a worthy cause.... in fact THREE
worthy causes <BG>. I include them in one post after much personal debate,
because I think it would be more confusing to have 3 separate posts with the
same general objective.... to ask for your donations.

1. AIS Silent Auction

The American Iris Society is looking for new and creative ways to meet their
mission, while remaining fiscally viable. One great effort is the SILENT
AUCTION that has been held for the past several years during the AIS National
Convention. Auction items are placed on tables (or "promise cards" when the
item is not available), with a bid sheet and those of us with lust in their
hearts bid on this and that, with the highest bidder winning the item. This
year, the SILENT AUCTION is being handled by Maxine Perkins and she asks that
I appeal to the kind iris folks for donations to this effort.

WHAT IS AN APPROPRIATE ITEM???? Well, what do you have? It can be an iris
or a collection of irises (anyone have an "inappropriate name collection to
donate??"), it can be an iris artifact, book, or anything at all! Got a cool
hosta?? Be creative.

Eventually, this auction will be posted on line too, but we're not there yet.
So please let us know if you can help - and send your donation promises to
Maxine @ Maxine is <Imperk@totacc.com>.

2. HIPS CONVENTION: This year, my very own region is trying the grand
experiment of not only having a min-convention - but staging one that has
NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE! NY State is the birthplace of the American Iris
Society and now we invite you all back for a walk down memory lane at the
FIRST EVER HIPS CONVENTION (first weekend in June in Syracuse, NY). We have
kept the registration low by counting on income from a SILENT AUCTION (based
on the good reviews of the AIS version), and we need your help. Again,
anything can be an auction item - but we'd be especially psyched if it was
something with a historic flavor. Although I'm not the auction chair, you
can let me know if you have something to donate and I'll get the word to the
proper party when I have a minute to look up the address again.

Also, I still have a few Region 2 newsletters featuring the convention for
anyone who thinks they'd be interested.

3. GEEK DINNER - yes, indeed. The geeks are gathering again at the AIS
Convention at the traditional (based on one year) GEEK DINNER. One popular
part of the dinner is the LIVE AUCTION and proceeds benefit the Electronic
Initiatives for irisdom. So - once again - let me know if you have something
to donate - and we welcome any and all donations.

So, there you have it...... 3 requests for handouts - but all for
extraordinary causes. Please take a minute to consider and we will be
honored to accept any and all donations. And because I'm easily confused -
please specify where your donation is intended... unless you're going for
iris sainthood and will donate to all three.

And also, on't forget to let me know if you're coming to the convention.....
I'm collecting names for Y2K Geek Pins. Heather Pryor's coming alllllllll
the way from Australia so you KNOW it's going to be one cool time!
