John, this is definitely a Neomarica. We had one blooming yesterday (the
bloom only lasts one day) that we had in a greenhouse over winter. Our plant
is labeled Neomarica gracilis. It is not hardy in zone 5 or 6. They are
fairly easy to start from seed and the SIGNA seedlist usually lists several.
In addition to being called the "Walking Iris," it is also known as the
"Apostle Plant." When it blooms, the stems bend over to touch the ground
where new plants form.
