I try to keep my historics in separate beds, and when one in
the fields becomes historic, I try to find a new home for it in an
historic bed. Since I have been at irising for a few years, more and
more are becoming historic, and I need to create more beds for my
aging irises. I limited myself to one 'new' historic this year from the
extensive listing in the Superstition catalog and think I can
squeeze it into an existing bed.
I chose CORSAGE (Watkins 1955) 30" M. Pure satiny white,
pixie-painted and haphazardly splashed with brilliant yellow; no two
petals alike; very unusual, very rare!! (Sounds like something Aline
McMahan would have liked in "Gold Diggers of 1933" if this
CORSAGE had been around for her to wear!)
The description reads as if CORSAGE is an older broken color
iris. I am wondering if any on the list has grown this one and can
share information on it. I think this is a first listing of this cultivar
by Superstition as I don't recall seeing it listed before, though I did
not compare the historic listing with previous catalogs.
Thanks in advance if you can tell us something about
CORSAGE. Think it could be worked into broken color breeding
lines??
