First year - Iris Gardener

From: "Lucy " <harrisfamily@coastalnet.com>

Hello to All,
I have just started an iris garden. I bought my plants in Oklahoma
between 1997 and 1998. I move to North Carolina and brought plenty of
the roots with me. I expect flowers in April or May. As a lover of
the iris flower and the fragrance, I can't wait to see what colors I
will get. My roots were labled when I first got them, but know it
will be guess work as to what I have. I will be pleased if I get a
medium show of color. I did get the roots planted last fall, but I
moved them a two weeks ago to a perminate bed. The move didn't set
the growth back. I boxed in a large area with land scape timbers and
filled it with compost from the local landfill. I also have used
rabbit pellets as food. I understand this helps root growth. So far
my plants look good. When I was in Oklahoma I used the same method
and had great results.
I would like to find out if there are any other gardners local to
me in Jacksonville, North Carolina. I would like to get help on
labling my flowers. I made a list of the iris names before the
lables wore out. The names were written on the leaf, which dried and
fell off. I would be willing to share extra roots as they multiply.
I know that iris roots are called 'rhyms', but I do not know the
proper spelling. I will learn with time.
Sincerely,
  Lucy
