This brings a story to mind.

One evening I set up a sprinkler in the field so that it
could be turned on early in the morning with no hassle.

When I did open the valve in the morning, water gushed out
of the hose a few feet from the valve. Inspection showed
that the hose had been cut to pieces and I mean pieces.
About every six inches starting at the sprinkler it had
been quite cleanly cut. This was a new 5/8" x 100' hose.
Down at the sprinkler end it was clear that a pack of
coyotes had been sitting in a circle around the sprinkler (
perhaps holding a religious service?). I expect that some
water was dripping from the sprinkler or hose connection
since it was downslope and from testing it the evening
before, some water would still be in it.
I can only assume that one coyote chewed through the hose
by the sprinkler and got a drink of water and then they
figured that by chewing it into short bits they would keep
the flow coming. I was a bit annoyed with the coyote
nation that day.

Normally we really appreciate having them come around.
Many summer evenings they will come to our front yard and
serenade us as we go to bed. They also are great rodent
predators so my annoyance was short-lived. It would have
been nice had they experimented on an old hose though.
