Donald Eaves' comments about MALAGUENA etc made me think of MONTEVIDEO -
would that be considered orange? It has been a mediocre grower here,
but reliably alive and always blooms at normal height. In other words,
it handles the roller coaster freezes fine, but is prone to malaise (I
haven't been watching it closely enough to notice exactly what it has
trouble with here - could be summer rain, critter chomps & subsequent
rot, slow growth.. ). It has not been out in the plowed rows - growing
in weeds and in the 'rot infested bed' which has more clay and less
rock.
I have a few seedlings from it crossed with DESERT REALM and BEHOLD A
LADY that look big enough to bloom this year. Not sure exactly what I
was thinking when I made those crosses .... not orange, I am sure!
