Re: AIS: Topics for Affiliates Meting in Dallas?

From: "Martha Brown" <mbrown@pldi.net>

This is my second year growing Iris and I am a
member of the nearest (35 miles away) Iris Group,
a group in OKC ( about 100 miles away) the AIS and
nine AIS affiliates plus TBIS. I also plan to
join a Tulsa group (about 150 miles away). I
attended the Convention in OKC and the Region 22
meeting in Hot Springs AR.

I will likely not be renewing my membership in the
closest group for the following reasons. I am
sure I will be classed with those who attended a
few meetings then just faded away.

(1) The lack of informative programs on growing
Iris. Slides are nice but all of the Irises run
together after a bit. Information on how the
plant grows and tips I can use to grow it better
would be more of more use to me as a newer
enthusiast. Just a few slides with an in depth
discussion of how to classify and identify each
Iris and what is different about it compared to
another Iris would be great. Teach me what the
differences between a self, a bi-tone, a horn, a
spoon etc. are.
(2) The interminable business meetings in which
everyone talks at the same time and feels free to
interrupt discussions at will with something
totally off subject resulting in a total lack of
organization in club business matters.
(3) The petty bickering and back-biting between
members.

I would much rather spend my time driving to a
distant meeting that is of some benefit or using
it otherwise than waste it at a meeting that is
unproductive.
