Ed, is it possible that you had a lot of white iris rhizomes at the old
place but they were just not blooming? They might like the climate better
where you are for a number of reasons. If they are early bloomers, the cold
or frost may have been stopping them from blooming in your old garden.
Did you bring all your old rhizomes with you or just a selection of good
sized ones?
I have dug mixed patches in the past, and kept only the biggest and best, to
find that I have chucked out, or given away all the nice colours, and been
left with a tall white iris called NEW SNOW, which has particularly good big
healthy rhizomes and grows like a weed.
If you have done this, you may have bought mostly whites with you.

My suggestion is that you make a new iris bed on your new garden, read up
(in our list archives) on who are the best people to buy from and get
yourself a nice collection of named varieties for the new bed. Keep them all
seperate and with their name tags, and then enjoy some of the gorgeous new
irises that bloom in your garden next spring.
I'm sure Mike Sutton, on our list, would be happy to provide you with
his latest catalogue and he has an excellent range of bearded irises at very
reasonable prices.
Cheers, Jan Clark, in Australia,
taking a little rest from lugging rocks and dirt.
