Cathy,

Our local AIS affiliate, the Logan Iris Society, has adopted the practice
of having a pre-sale at half off the regular price for members when we set
up for our annual sale. We do our set-up and pre-sale between 5:30 and 7:00
p.m. and are all ready to greet the dollar-waving public when the doors to
the regular sale open at 7 p.m. We have abandoned the auction as no one
would make a decent bid - new introductions would be knocked down for $3 or
$4, so now we sell everything for a fixed price with the most recent
introductions marked at $10. People who would never bid that much for an
iris in an auction will readily buy when it is stated as the going price -
something about the psychology of marketing, I guess.
