Yes it is important to protect those possibly germinating seeds from
sudden dips in the rollercoaster!!!
I know, I torture my plants with neglect and deliberately bury them in
fresh horse manure, but not those potential new babies. At least not at
that stage of their lives <g>. If temps drop below the upper 20s this
late in the winter/spring, I take drastic measures to protect them (bury
the tubs/beds in cola bottles of water then cover the whole thing with
double layers of Reemay, or bring them indoors). If it's just barely
below freezing, I just cover them.
If they were in the ground, the mass of soil would help buffer
temperatures a bit, but in pots or flats or whatever, the soil
temperatures tend to warm up faster (as well as get colder) so the
seedlings are even more vulnerable.
Well, nothing like good advice after the fact. Thanks to "Daddy" Lloyd
for warning me about this back in earlier days of the list.
