Gwen, I'd like to see that garden!  I have done this in a minor way, not 
deliberately, but it ended up as a way of showing the development of the iris 
because I have kept a Dykes Bed -- and it is planted in a row  according to 
the date of the award. As you walk along you can see how the form etc 
changes,  You don't see anything about color, except when an iris makes the 
Dykes award, the next few years, other hybridizers follow with a similar 
color, which can be confusing, and not really a very original break-through.
