Not so subtle a technique, but standing on the rhizome, so that you break 
off the single growing fan, will result in a bevy of side increases. I 
accidentally did this with SILK DEGREES and it immediately put up 8 
increase. (Well - not so immediately that you could see them shoot out of 
the ground :-)
