My mom gardened in New Jersey with a pretty even loamy soil and she
did the same with bone meal...I do remember her colors being so bright and
that was back in the early 70's...before all the eye-poppers of today! I
do believe that clay has some better properties to it than the sandy stuff I
have here...actually make that sandy stuff infiltrated with years of pine
mulch. Not mulch good, haha. Have to add other humus from areas of the
yard where there are other trees and alfalfa works well for me too, I am able
to find it in meal form (finely ground).
Funny part is that when I lived across town, I had ALL CLAY...really sticky
stuff. Makes me want to be back in NJ...well, almost.
