I believe Fred Gadd hybridized arilbreds in Connecticut from the 60's into
the 90's.  If this is not correct, someone needs to set the record straight.
Generally, I think, in order to hybridize you also grow them, but he may
have used other methods and I don't know what lengths he utilized in order
to grow them.  I have read about some of the methods Geoff Wilson uses in
England and Harald Mathes in Germany to successfully grow them.  I think
some of their stuff would be well worth trying in cooler, more humid
climates.
