Sylvia,
This is Neomarica gracilis. The blooms are a purple/white bicolor, and
are fragrant. This is a member of the Iris Family.
It is a very easy to grow as a potted plant. Keep it outside in a
mostly shaded place during the summer, and keep it inside in a bright sunny
room in the winter. Do not let the potted plants get frozen.
I live in Florida, and have a couple plants of this species in the
ground, but they were severely damaged by temperatures as low as 12 F [-12
C] this past winter. Two large plants that I have in pots, and moved inside
on our 46 freeze nights this past winter, are doing fine and now have buds.
