Mike,

The AIS Judges' Handbook has the following to say with respect to TBs:

"A variety must remain in bloom over two weeks or it should receive few
points. If the total number (of buds) is fewer than seven, no points can be
given. The sequence of bloom is as critical as bud count. A stalk which
consistently opens three or more blooms at once almost never meets the
15-day minimum requirement for bloom."

I can verify the last point from my own expreience, as varieties like PINK
TAFFETA and EASTERTIME have adequate bud count, but do not stay in bloom
for more than 10 or 11 days at most because they open too many blooms
simultaneously.

Too many buds increases the possibility of two flowers in the same socket
opening at the same time, which would present an unattractive sight IMO.
