Do they have enough sunlight? I am not an iris expert, like some of
the folks on this list, but the more sun they get the better.
Other things: drainage? If they get stuck in a muddy spot, they don't
like it. Check after a rainfall... does the water drain away, or are
there puddles or mud still around them.
Soil? Is it too heavy? If too hard packed, should be tilled and
lightened.
Another possibility is they are too crowded. If the clump has many
rhizomes, they need to be separated.
Do you know if the person who gave them to you was successful with
blooms? You might just have a very "shy" iris that won't come out for
anyone!

whose been learning alot about iris the hard way, and hoping to
increase the number of blooms this year.
