If I could afford the electricity, I would do the whole field in lights.
Actually they started blooming in November in this area, mostly seedlings
so I started checking the books to see if any had reblooming in their
background,
nothing. On one cross both plants were Early X Early but that doesn't
equal rebloom.
A friend was doing a program a couple weeks ago on flower arranging for a
Iris
Society and came by and we picked a 5 gallon bucket full of stalks for
her to use. Nobody else has this kind of bloom around here this time of
year, even the increase on these plants are big enough to bloom again in
a month.
Of course this type of growing isn't good for evaluation of seedlings but
at least I get to see the results sooner and already have seed pods.
On the re selects I'll have to move them to the regular garden to see how
they do. If I had won the California Lottery, I would buy those large
greenhouses with growing lights and retractable roofs.
