Last night was our club meeting, and for the program, I had slides from AIS;
since we have many newer Irisarians in the club, I wanted to show them that
there are other Iris than TB's--I asked Bill Mull--AIS Slide person, to
recommend a slide set to me; he recommended 'The Iris Family'--which is a
set of slides which contains 4 slides each of each size size of bearded
Iris, beardless Iris, Spurias, Japanese, Louisianas, etc--and many
specie--with a commentary about each variety. He also sent a small 20 slide
set of Japanese and Siberians--
The first set of slides we showed, were from HIPS--award winners of the
'40's and '50's--many Dykes and many AM Award winners--from early '40's
through late '50's--showing the changes in form and colors over that 20 year
period--
Some of the longer term members (we do not use the term 'older members')
would point out features of the HIPS Iris--i.e.-this was the first to have
ruffles, open standards etc--so all in all, everyone contributed to the
program, and the newer members thought it was a great show--and helped them
to realize that there are many forms of Iris flowers--
If you need a program for an 'inside' meeting--I would really recommend
either or both or these slide sets--AIS is free to an affiliated society,
Hips slide sets are $ 7.50, plus return postage for both--really a bargain!!
Carryl in western Montana zone 3/4--where it is still cold and more white
mulch is coming down outside--
