Hi Everyone,

I've been "learking" on the list for about a year now. My wife and I
have been growing iris since we've had a yard of our own, about seven years.
We started with TB and SIB iris, but lost most of the early iris either to
borers or the dry shady conditions of our yard. We finally joined the Iris
Society of MA and learned about median bearded iris. We've had great success
growing medians, especially MTBs.
In the spring of 2000 we moved from the Boston area to western CT to a
house that has more land and more sun. We now grow a variety of iris, both
bearded and beardless. Our first iris of the year are now blooming, Iris
Reticulata. I thought they were crocus at first, but my wife informed me
that she decided to plant iris instead, since the squirrels usually eat the
crocus blossoms before we get a chance to see them.
We have now joined the Connecticut Iris Society, and we encourage anyone
in the Connecticut area to check out www.irisgarden.org, and consider
joining.
