RE: CULT: EDITH WOLFORD

With all the discussion of where EW won't grow (including our Zone 5
Missouri garden, I was very startled to visit upstate New York early
last June (also Zone 5 but with colder, longer winters and later
spring) and find her VERY happily blooming in two gardens that we had
sent her to three years ago. My brother had four stalks true to
color, straight and tall looking as distinctive as she is supposed
to. My friend Carolyn had several stalks including one that we
picked up off the ground-fell over from the weight of 5 open
blossoms! We had to get a big wine jug to hold it upright! It was
one of the most gorgeous things I have ever seen (and I couldn't find
a show to put it in!!). We still have a few puny pieces in several
places because we keep hoping!
