Re: Re: HYB: seed germination?

I would like to report the spotting of two (2!)sprouts from the 2001 crop. As usual, the first are from plicata breeding AND both parents (seedlings) rebloomed here. Both share a common pod parent--((Laced Cotton x Autumn Encore) x Renown) but they have different pollen contributors, one to the red side and one to the purple side.

I think one of the main things that affects germination is a good supply of moisture during sprouting season. With above ground BLACK pots filled with near BLACK soil and being stuck out in the open, I must keep these watered well for the next month.

Strangely, I've noted that sprouting seems to follow the same pattern each year. The first sprout comes whenever it's ready, but the last sprout is usually a month later--kinda like bloom season. Last year was an exception to this rule because more sprouted once I started watering again, late in the season.

Anyone else noted patterns to the sprouting?
