Anyone else noted patterns to the sprouting?
Betty,
Mine have sprouted in about the same order as I planted them.
I planted the seeds starting November 15th after soaking for 10 days.
This time since I only had 50 pods, I just planted in the order that they
were picked. What was strange for me this year is that they took a full
12 weeks before I saw anything. Normally I would see a few in 6 weeks
then quite a few in 8 weeks, then the rest by 12 weeks.
Usually it holds true that the plicatas are the fastest to sprout, but
now I've got such a involved mix of selfs w/broken color, selfs
w/luminata and selfs w/plicatas that I've been crossing back and forth
that they don't know what they are anymore. The reason I crossed all
these fancys with selfs in the first place is that I wanted different
colors of fancys, most results were hafty but I hope to regain some of
the broken color, plicata, and luminata patterns back this time around.
I do have a beautiful seedling in bloom now Midnight Madonna (which is a
purple black self) X Fancy Woman, that came out blue purple, great
ruffled form, large over lapping falls, red based foliage, and a white
luminata spot around the beards. No half lines thank goodness. I guess
I've rambled on enough...Randy, SoCal USDA zone 10
