Re: CULT: Favorites - long

Dear Donald,
Thank you for your discriptions. I loved going down the path with you.
I left some out of my favorites:
AFTERNOON DELIGHT is fabulous, with wonderful colors & exquisite
branching. It usually is too early for our Iris Show or I would surely win
Best in Show; maybe, this will be the year!
APRIL IN PARIS is a lovely pink which blooms profusly.
CARISMA is a gorgeous blue, I dig almost every year.
FEEDBACK is a fabulous tall purple which reblooms in a lovely tall
fashion.
IMMORTALITY is a fabulous ruffled white which reblooms religiously, but
is usually short, 28" for me.
HELLO DARKNESS is a beautiful, well branched black.
CALIENTE is a lovely brick red, tall & stately & prolific & wins a blue
ribbon routinely for me at our show. Last year I won a prize for best red &
the year before, I won a prize for best red. So it must be.
DOROTHEA K WILLIAMSON is a lovely Louisianna Iris which grows like a
weed & is a gorgeous violet color. It has a flat form & sort of crawls along
the ground.
ROSEWATER is a gorgeous very tall violet, Japaneese Iris. It is about 6
to 8 inches across and about 40" high or higher.
THRILLER is a gorgeous bright dark violet which grows well but blooms
after our show.
EAGLES FLIGHT is a beautiful plicata iris which starts my TB bloom &
freezes every year, if I don't cover it or cut the stalk & bring it indoors.
NORA EILEEN is a fabulous fushia color & usually gives me a blue
ribbon.
TUT'S GOLD is a wonderful bright gold & grows even in the partial shade.
BLUE JAY WAY is a fairly new iris for me, but made a lovely large clump &
has a beautiful dark blue flower which has so many blooms open at once, it
may be disqualified on the table.
CORN HARVEST is another rather short iris, gold in color with prolific
bloom especially in the Fall.
THE BLACK DOUGLAS is a lovely bi-tone purple & black with different,
species form & great branching. It is an historic iris & is really beautiful
with many blooms.
TITAN'S GLORY is a beautifully formed purple iris, tall & stately with
good branching & bloom & usually gives me another blue ribbon.
BETTY FRANCES is a lovely vey pale lavender, ruffled & prolific. It will
take over your bed if not divided yearly.
MARY FRANCES is a Dykes medal winner I would recommend. It is a lovely
lavender with good branching & covered with blooms. If it would only peek on
the day of our show , I could win Best of Show with it, but usually , it
peeks a few days before & is still lovely but only brings a red ribbon.
BELVI QUEEN is a very old style iris. It is difficult to discribe, but
is gorgeous especially in the Fall when it has 11 blooms, one or two open at
a time, and great branching, but only medium sized blooms, yellow & rust
colored plicata.
CARNIVAL IN RIO is a gorgeous hard to discribe iris with irridescent
violet & blue blooms. Hard to missin the garden.
CINNAMON GIRL is a gorgeous tall, plicata, white with a dark rose edge
, good substance & lots of bloom, very stately & long lasting blooms of
exquisite form.
Well, I could go on & on, but I need to stop sometime.
Annette Milch, Lexington, Kentucky, USA, Zone 5/6
New President of the Bluegrass Iris Society. Waiting impatiently for my
irises to bloom.
