There is a thread on iris-photos (without photos) of 'triple socketed
buds' and the 'perfect iris,' which I think goes here on iris talk since
there are no accompanying photographs. Also, there is a bigger
audience here. Some of you are missing it, since there are four
hundred more members on iris-talk than on iris-photos. So, no
offense, but I am moving it here, hopefully, with your cooperation.
Two perfect irises have been introduced recently, and strangely
enough both from the same hybridizer.
These are ARCTIC FOX and VALENTINE'S DAY by Vern Wood.
Triple socketed buds may be good or bad, since the resulting
blooms seem to get smaller and smaller, with the fourth not
opening at all in the hot, later season. PACIFIC OVERTURES
produced four in the terminal and three on side brances. But, this
may also have something to do with the weather, extra-rich
fertilizer, rainfall, threats of being culled, etc.
