I've been preparing the bed for my seedlings, some of which are almost ready to set out. I don't have to worry about having enough room. My germination this year is very poor. I almost wish I hadn't written the number of seeds on the tag of each pot. It's too embarrassing. Part of the fault is mine. The planting mix I put them in proved to be too light. With every watering it floats. Some seeds did too. Some probably sank. The other problem is the weather. I doubt that germinating seeds like temperatures in the 90s.
Some crosses have done remarkably better than others. Everything related to Mariposa Skies and Romantic Evening is about ready to transplant. I've read that those are good parents, and assumed that meant they would make good stalks with nice flowers. Does it also mean that they will come up and grow better than others?
The space age irises have given the poorest germination. The cross I wanted most, Appleblossom Days X Margaret Inez, has produced 29 seeds and only two plants. I'll set out those, put the pot back somewhere and keep hoping.
The New Leaf X Ring Around Rosie cross has given me around 50 so far, and they're still coming up.
I have so much to learn about this game. I need all the suggestions I can get.
