I doubt this would work because the bloomstalks would already be formed
inside the fans. I haven't looked this closely, but my impression is that
these extra bloomstalks don't have any rhizome nodes, but arise directly
from an axillary bud. As such, they would not be able to produce any
increase on their own. It would be like cutting off and trying to root a
bloomstalk--which doesn't happen.
Another scenario--sometimes increases form so early in the season that they
bloom the following spring, along with the terminal. In such cases, the
side stalks DO have rhizome nodes, and so produce their own "secondary"
increases. This can happen in rebloomers that almost but not quite rebloom
the preceeding season.
