Dorothy,
If only you were close enough....
We have no hybridizers within 4 hours of us. We would love to have
someplace to visit to see new iris growing. Our regional meeting is a fall
meeting and therefore we don't see any iris then either.
We do visit most of the local gardens a couple of times each year and
really wish there was more to see.

Don't forget that AIS Conventions are primarily for tall bearded irises,
with
a few BB, MTB and sometimes beardless in evidence. Those of us who grow
mostly early blooming dwarf and median irises cannot have them seen at
conventions, therefore don't bother to send them. (However, we do have four
Siberian seedlings as guests at the Memphis convention.) Late blooming
Japanese irises face the same situation, which is why they frequently have
their own conventions. It is very difficult to get judges to our gardens,
even when we offer to pick them up and bring them to see the irises. That
is
a failure on the part of judges to perform their duties. If they can go to
the conventions, surely they can go twenty or thirty miles to local
hybridizers' gardens.
