CULT:First Blooms

Through unprecedented rain, cold, and cloudiness some of my reticulatas are finally
blooming. These little fellers are blooming right on the ground all at the same time,
making quite a display. They are a sight to behold, with the variety KATHERINE
HODGKIN really strutting her stuff. If you don't know these bulbous irises, they are
like Dutch iris blooms on two inch stalks. They really brighten this day, which is the
tenth in a row without any sunshine. These blooms are a month late, and I am
wondering if their tardiness is predicting a late bloom season with the bearded irises.

The ditch narcissi along the country roads where old farmsteads used to be are
hardly blooming either, and here we usually see these in late January or early
February. I saw one cluster blooming on the south side of a hill on my way into town
this morning, but nothing in profusion.

And, the weathermen claim this is an El Nino year. Ha! No January or February
thaws here this year. Maybe March? The gas man is happy and so is the electric
company.

Now, back to the coffee and the iris catalogs.

GOLLY GEE WHIZ looks like a blue and red luminata with a Lights, Camera, Action
border. Will have to plunk down $40 and see.

Just wish there was a picture of NEANDERTHAL, so I could get the color of this one
in my mind.
