TB: Lovely but problematic

Two of the most attractive iris new to my garden last year had disconcerting
flaws to their growth patterns. Ethereal Voices had a single exquisite
bloomstalk, but during the summer and fall every single adult rhizome (4 or 5)
rotted out, seemingly at unrelated times as opposed to in one ugly episode.
The increases were completely unaffected and the clumplet now looks fine
again. Not fatal, but an ugly and worrisome thing to watch.

Poem Of Ecstasy bloomed in the spring, then around July gave me 2 or 3 stalks
at 40-48" high, each with about 20 blooms. Eyedropping show of color. Since
then the whole clump has been pineappling; all I have left is 3 or 4
pineappled potatoes. I broke the tops off hoping they will produce normal
increase. Sometimes that helps.

Managed to get a small bed almost ready today; about 40 square feet for lining
out a few crosses from trays or planting the rest of my potted acquisitions
from last year. About 400 square feet would be more like what I really need.

Stalks rising on Valentine's Day, Pagan Pink, Epicenter, Gaelic Jig, Wearing
Rubies, Stingray, Eggnog, Plum Wine, Rock Star, Floorshow, and probably a lot
more I haven't noticed yet.
