RE: CULT: don't squeeze the charmin

Christian, I don't think sprouting irises look like grass. I remember
my first ones. One tiny prong, wider than a blade of grass, quickly
becomes two. In three to four weeks a third leaf appears in the center,
and you have a tiny fan. At two to three inches high, I set mine out
and when a fourth leaf appears, it means its on its way.

It's amazing what little things we neophyte pollen daubers can get
excited about. My first seedling from last year bloomed today. It's
from two blue by tones called neglectas, but it is a bright violet-blue
self. It's not unusual, I'm sure, but I'll keep it until I figure out
if it is a rebloomer. It has rebloom genes and very well could be.

Subject: [iris] CULT: don't squeeze the charmin

Hey all you closet scientists,

Does anyone know anything about the embryotic life of a seed?

Like, what would an iris seed be doing inside if you disected it right
now?
Three weeks ago. If you squeezed it would it pop like a pimple? Do the
wrinkles go away before it germinates (someone's recent post said they
wait
for the seeds to get all black and wrinkly, but I don't remember the
specific context).

Some of you have said that the babies look like grass. How long to they
look like grass? Will I be able to tell them from grass before my
husband
decides it's time to mow? (Did I already mention that one of my seed
flats
got flipped over in the grass by the porch?)

Can you tell I've never done this before?

;P
