Well.... no. I've never had borers here, but I suppose there's always a
first time. I think that they don't handle the moisture extremes in the
gravelly soil here & like Waltah says, it is possibly too hot. They
certainly are present about 50 miles north of here, so I've at least had
the opportunity to see in person what borer damaged plants look like.
These are hard, aren't moving, and are only in the terminal fan. Maybe
it's just very dense foliage disguising as bloomstalks. Time will tell.
Do you have TBs blooming with SDBs out there in iris heaven?
<So, can you tell the difference between a bloomstalk and a borer
working its way down the fan? John>
Thanks Juri - that would be nice if it was trying to rebloom.
Especially if it manages to bloom normally this spring. We have had a
long cold rainy winter, but each time temperatures got really cold, we
got a bit of snow cover. I piled a bunch of cola bottles full of water
around the base of these seedlings last fall to provide a little
temperature control to see if I could get them to bloom this spring. So
<maybe> I will get to see bloom.

during
fall and was not frozen during winter. Juri Pirogov>
