Lera,
First question is what price range are you considering? I have a Nikon
CoolPix 4300 that has a macro setting for extreme close-ups. That camera is
priced around $400. It is a 4 megapixel camera, so the definition is very
good--the quality depends on the photographer <g>.
I've been pleased with it, but I've also been thinking about moving up to
one of those babies in the $1000 range that is more like a 35mm SLR camera
so I can more easily take the kind of pictures I'd like to take and have the
ability to change lenses. While the 4300 can do it, and can take an external
flash, there is no way for me to turn off the internal flash, which can ruin
some of my photos. However, for the type of photography you mention, it
should be more than adequate.
Not to be a shill for Nikon (the 4300 is my first Nikon), you can find the
Nikon digital cameras at http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?cat=1&grp=2

Subject: [iris] Camera Question
Good Evening,
I am one of your lurkers and I enjoy the conversations and have really
learned alot about iris breeding.
I am now in the market for a new digital camera and I am interested in using
it for a point and shoot for everday and also a macro for flower--especially
iris--photos. I thought that some of you might have a suggestion for such a
camera as I know many of you take wonderful pictures of your iris.
Thank you in advance.
