Hey Lera,
The best advice I had concerning Digital Camers was to get out and handle one, as well as keep open eyes on the types of batteries the camera uses.
I searched for 8 months before I purchased my Kodak. It was really funny how I obtained this camera, too! Here's my short story. I had picked out a Minolta DImage Z and a Olympus C750. While at a Best-Buy downstate, I saw NEITHER of these cameras, since I was shopping for prices. That's when I saw a Kodak DX6490 sitting on a printer. . . let's just call it love-at-first-photo. :-) Instead of buying it from the store, I did get a better deal online. . . (sorry Best Buy lovers. . . )
Good Story?
Now on to batteries. An electronic savvy friend of mine told me to get a camera with Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries, since Nickel-Metal Cadmium batteries have a memory that will deplete after so many chargings. My Kodak has a Lithium Ion battery, and so far it has outlasted my 128MB memory card. :-)
I am not a pro when it comes to electronics. If anyone reads this e-mail and finds my info incorrect, please "un-learn" me!
Enjoying my camera, since I've only had it for one month and have some AWESOME orchid photos. . .

Good Evening,
I am one of your lurkers and I enjoy the conversations and have really
learned alot about iris breeding.
I am now in the market for a new digital camera and I am interested in using
it for a point and shoot for everday and also a macro for flower--especially
iris--photos. I thought that some of you might have a suggestion for such a
camera as I know many of you take wonderful pictures of your iris.
Thank you in advance.
