Hi Mike,

In my opinion, whether the iris has been sold or shipped has nothing to do
with its introduction. Many irises are registered and advertised for sale that
are never sold, such as hobby hybridizers who name irises for their
grandchildren. Personally, I think it is introduced when the catalog or ad in an iris
publication is mailed or it is otherwise advertised for sale. There could be
a question about the registrar receiving notification, but I have seen irises
listed in the check lists as introduced in a certain year even though it
didn't appear in an R & I until after that year. Several times we have been asked
to register an iris that appeared in the parentage of our introductions, but
that the hybridizer had failed to register even though the iris had appeared in
price lists. One possibility, that seldom happens, could be an iris that is
not advertised for sale until after the July 1 voting deadline.
In that case a judge could legitimately vote an HC that year. Hope this
helps.

Hope this helps.
