Another thought - although in our climate there are two good growing
children of MULBERRY PUNCH (RIP CITY and MERLOT), all of these are
Schreiner kids. My understanding is that they grow thousands (?) of
seedlings from each cross, many more than most other hybridizers would
be able to grow. So these still might represent the exceptional few,
very best seedlings out of very many, much poorer quality relatives.
I was warned several years ago that crossing Schreiner seedlings with
each other would often (usually?) produce a lot of seedlings much poorer
than either parent.
