Hi Neil,

In the olden days my husband and I were quite close with Steve Moldovan. He
was in the Army Reserve and was called to active duty during the Bay of Pigs
incident. He was then president of our local iris society and members pitched
in to weed his irises while he was away. Steve is several years younger than
I and had just graduated from Ohio State University when we first met him. He
was especially Orville Fay's protege as well as other Illinois hybridizers.
I don't believe he grew irises of the Purissima vintage, but was using more
advanced seedlings from Fay and the others. In 1968 he introduced our first
iris, Lemon Spot, an SDB. He introduced a few dwarfs himself, but mainly he was
interested in big, beautiful TBs. Now, of course, he is mainly interested in
big, beautiful daylilies.
