Re: Proper use of list (Char Randall)

Barbara, if it sounds like Chinese, please feel free to ask, "What in the heck
are you talking about? In English please?" or something to that effect.

None of us that get into fairly technical stuff intend to leave anyone out. A
lot of times the ideas behind those complicated terms are really pretty basic
and fascinating once you understand the language used about them.

Iris pigments, growth behavior and genetics have more interest for some than
others, but are potentially useful to almost anyone who grows these wonderful
things. If you ever plant any seeds and raise the babies the questions boil
to the surface--Why did *this* show up in my cross of such and such?
Sometimes a question like that can be answered simply, sometimes not.

Another area where those very same questions come up is in trying to
understand why some recent Dykes Medal irises don't do well in the sun in New
Mexico or Arizona, but moved into moister, cooler locations in semi-shade or
up into higher, cooler country they suddenly take off--or a bunch of similar
questions. Edith Wolford is a notorious example.

One thing we do have the freedom to do on lists like this is--if a matter
doesn't interest one, it can be deleted or passed up. "Different strokes for
different folks," as the saying goes.
