Re Steve Moldovan (was: Re: SPECIES: why here? germanica )

Dorothy, I recall an exchange of e-mails between us following a brief mention
of him in something you posted.  I inquired if Steve were still living, since
I had heard nothing about him in any other current discussions and saw no
recent iris registrations or introductions from him.  You relieved my mind and
spirit when you explained the side-step into daylily involvement, which had
already begun when I knew him.

One wonderfully pleasant memory is when Cliff Benson latched onto Steve and
myself to count the ballots for the President's Cut at a National when we were
both quite young.  That was the only time I ever had any face-to-face contact
with him, but did participate with him in a robin and read avidly his
interesting and informative contributions.

His close relationship with Orville Fay was in full swing, and I had a chance
to meet Fay and visit with him briefly because of Steve, a memory I continue
to treasure.  It is remarkable how one of the really "greats" of both iris and
daylily history had both time and courtesy for someone still wet behind the
ears.
