Re: CULT: HYB: Jean Stevens - climate/soil

Thanks Colleen and Neil.

After I posted my question, I thought of hunting for info online &
discovered that annual rainfall in NZ mostly ranges from 1 to 2 m
annually, with a <lot> more in some parts of the country. And I thought
it rained a lot here!

I did find a rainfall map and another that showed Wanganui. Looks like
their annual rainfall might actually be a bit less than we usually get
here - ours is around 1.5 m, more or less. Most of our rain is usually
in the winter also, unless we get hurricanes in late summer/fall.

From another map, it looks like soils in that coastal area are developed
from mudstone/siltstone.

So, I guess her irises would probably do ok with all the rain, but might
need some protection from the worst of the cold. I may try PINNACLE,
just to see what it does.

<Not as humid as some other parts of NZ but not Mediterranean either.
Not drought prone, more winter than summer rain. I'm an ex Kiwi Colleen
