Cicadas - hybridizing

I have never heard of cicada damage to iris. I know they go in long cycles
but we have them nearly every year. I guess they are not all on the same
cycle. My goals in hybridizing are singular. Hardy iris in my region. I am not
interested in registering or distributing, just producing a plant I can enjoy
and getting rid of those I don't. I am in the process of keeping better
records and being more ruthless in culling seedlings and introduced iris both. The
most beautiful iris in the world is not lovely unless it thrives and blooms.
Well, I do have another goal. I have been growing PCI from seed for many
years now. I have two that do really well here and have been using them to
hybridize others. I have about 15 cultivers that have made it for 3 years or more.
This year I may spend my iris money buying some named cultivars. I have
found that purchasing plants results in quite a bit of loss.
